The Aotea Therapeutic Pack Contains:
1 x Harakeke Seed Oil Night Cream
The key tenant in our restorative night cream is the harakeke seed (flaxseed). Harakeke seeds are rich in Omega's 3 and 6 which make them super nourishing for the skin. Omega 3 in particular plays a crucial role in cell rejuvenation and restoration. All of the ingredients in this night cream are 100% natural to the point that it is actually edible. Our theory is, why would you put something on your body that you would never dream of eating when it's all going to be absorbed into the bloodstream. Apply this cream every night and wake up to skin that feels and looks hydrated.
1 x Mānuka Honey Day Cream
A lightweight day cream formulated to nourish sensitive skin, soothe irritations, and blemishes while increasing skin hydration. What we put on our skin is ultimately absorbed into our body; which is why our Mānuka Honey Day Cream contains only the most natural and simple restorative ingredients. Mānuka Honey has a high moisture content, which can naturally draw moisture to the skin, and will leave your skin feeling hydrated for longer. This day cream also contains kawakawa infused sweet almond oil due to its strong anti-inflammatory properties, ideal for reducing redness and blemishes.
1 x Kawakawa Balm
Our multi-purpose soothing balm is based on the traditional use of Kawakawa for irritations, abrasions, and pains. Kawakawa leaves have a super high anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and analgesic content making their extracts incredibly beneficial for relieving skin issues. With sweet almond and mānuka oil, and beeswax from our own hives, our Kawakawa Balm is the natural and native skincare remedy perfect for dry lips, skin irritations (like eczema), as well as bites, sores, and nappy rash.
Handmade in small batches on Aotea. Products may vary slightly from batch to batch.
Science:
The seeds of the Phorium Tenax, known as Harakeke or New Zealand Flax, have super high omega 3, 6, and 9 content. They also contain another fatty amino acid called Linoleic Acid, which has been shown to be deeply restorative to the skin. Further, its phytosterol and antioxidant content soak into the skin while you sleep, making it deeply nourishing. Another component our Harakeke Night Cream contains is kawakawa infused oil, allowing it to also be anti-inflammatory and ideal for red and sensitive skin.
Mānuka honey is a natural anti-microbial and antibacterial warrior. The non-peroxide activity of honey helps form a barrier, increasing moisture levels. Due to the reaction of glucose and oxygen molecules, it is also able to reduce inflammation. We also use other oils infused with kawakawa and mānuka, with more restorative ingredients like Vitamin E Oil, Shea Butter, and Provitamin B5.
Macropiper excelsum, better known as Kawakawa, is incredibly healing. Research shows that it decreases inflammatory markers of nitric oxide. It possesses bioactives, Myrsiticin and Diayangambin that are anti-inflammatory. When your Aotea Kawakawa Balm is applied, these bioactives seep into the inflamed or damaged tissue to reduce swelling and aid the healing process. Further, the beeswax creates a natural protective seal and the mānuka oil is deeply cleansing. Your Kawakawa Balm is 100% natural and made of only three ingredients; Kawakawa infused sweet almond oil, Mānuka oil, and beeswax.

Aotea
A range of New Zealand made health products inspired by traditional Māori herbal remedies and supported by scientific research.
Aotea was founded in 2017 – inspired by mātauranga māori (māori knowledge) and this knowledge manifests itself in their range of therapeutic skincare. Aotea is the māori name for Great Barrier Island and it is here where they are from and where they grow the native flora they use (and extract their oils) and spin these into the products in their range. This is all done by their team on their papakāinga (land).
What is important is what they do brings opportunity to the community where they are based on Aotea. In light of which they have decided (despite the difficulty) to grow, extract and manufacture all the products rather than outsource this. Aotea is proud to say that for every year they have been in business they have provided scholarships to their rangatahi māori to attend high school and they are in the process of creating more jobs for whānau.
What is also important to Aotea is spearheading the science that will give credibility to the anecdotal history and knowledge māori have for the healing flora of Aotearoa. They now have a committed R&D team to determine innovative ways to not only extract some of the plant agents in the flora they use but also undertake clinical tests of these plant agents.
