'STOP' is a doorstop made with recycled shoe soles – Designed by Studio Gorm in Finland.

Unlike your typical doorstop, a cone can wedge from any side.

We had an 'aha' moment when it occurred to us that shoe soles are durable and slightly flexible in just the way a doorstop needs to be. ‘STOP’ is an innovative doorstop produced for Pidät by a shoe sole maker.

DETAILS

Designed for a circular economy. You can upcycle otherwise discarded shoe soles by cutting them up and mixing them in. The flakes look beautiful, and they're recycled. Pidät developed 'STOP' with a forward-thinking shoe sole maker who was willing to experiment to find the perfect mix, adding as many recycled flakes as possible while still maintaining the integrity of the material.

There is no label attached, and no packaging that needs to go to the landfill. All of the information about your doorstop is printed on a reusable cotton pouch.

⋄ The synthetic rubber is made from 60% recycled shoe soles.
⋄ The polyester rope is made from 100% upcycled post-consumer waste plastic drinking bottles, & coloured ⋄ using a water-free dying process.
⋄ Ø 146㎜ × H 40㎜
⋄ Designed in America & Finland / Ethically made in China

PIDÄT is a Finnish brand of everyday household objects started by two designers. We have a ‘slow design’ approach, developing only products where we feel we can contribute something fresh and unique. With an emphasis on making things that won’t harm the planet, we research the materials for as long as it takes. We hope for a thorough, passionate design process that comes through in the end product.

'STOP' was designed by Oregon-based American designers John & Wonhee Arndt of STUDIO GORM. With backgrounds in sculpture and craft, they have a playful approach to materials that is a great match for Pidät. In their design work, they pay particular attention to culture, history, and technology, and how objects evolve to fit the needs of modern life.

Certifications. Synthetic rubber and polyester rope materials are certified by Global Recycled Standard 4.0. Materials passed REACH and California Prop 65 testing.
