DESIGNER

DESIGNED BY Christoffer Harlang

Christoffer Harlang grew up surrounded by design, art, and architecture, and his vision of design is a modernistic one: design should improve and innovate without attracting attention, offering a subtle and sensuous experience that creates an inviting and friendly atmosphere. Much like architecture. Christoffer Harlang trained as an architect, and besides holding a PhD and a title as a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design, and Conservation, he also has his own studio. One of the firm’s latest tasks was to assist in building the new visitor centre for the old fortress of Hammershus on the Danish island of Bornholm. During that process, the idea of a series of products came to mind, and the collaboration with Skagerak began.

Harlang is inspired by anonymous design made by skilled craftspeople in a classical approach. In this regard, he follows in the footsteps of Danish design icons such as Kaare Klint, Poul Kjærholm and Arne Jacobsen. They all improved and refined the furniture and product types they worked within an exacting and inventive process. According to Christoffer Harlang, design should coexist with the surroundings in a beautiful and harmonious way.
