Kumpu is Finnish for mound, and the raised forms across this cast iron trivet do the work: they lift a hot pot or pan off the table and leave air moving underneath.

Mika & Julie Tolvanen designed it to stay out between meals. Each one is sand-cast by hand at a family-run foundry in Lyrestad, Sweden, then heat-seasoned the way cast iron cookware is – so no two finish exactly alike.

At 1.6 kg it stays where you put it. Natural cork pads underneath keep the iron off the tabletop.
