Waitaha Canterbury-based potter Richard Beauchamp approaches mug-making from a unique perspective — his previous career in the coffee industry has taught him a thing or two about what makes a good cup. His stoneware mugs are made by hand using a combination of wheel throwing and hand-building techniques.
"As someone who’s spent the best part of the last decade with a cup of coffee in hand, it’d be fair to say I have a healthy appreciation for a good mug. When it comes to ceramics, I’ll be the first to say that I’m definitely pretty fresh, but if you like your mugs like you like your coffee (fresh), we’ll get on just fine."
