So what is Washable kraft paper?
Well like the name suggests its washable paper. You’ve probably come across it once before, remember when Levis changed from leather patches on the back of their jeans to that brown papery patch? Yep that’s the stuff and that’s why you can chuck SammyBags into the wash time and time again and not have it get damaged.
Because it’s made up of 60% Cellulose and 30% Synthetic Latex – as some people have allergy to natural latex. It feels like paper but ages like leather .
Hang on a second, what’s the other 10% made up of?
4% ~ 6% water, 0.5% ~ 2% colour pigments, 0.5% ~ 2% chemicals. The paper we use is accredited by Oeko-Tex, which tests for harmful substances, and is also a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved product. We also independently food contact tested the paper by SGS laboratories in Hong Kong and it passed with flying colours.
You can put SammyBags through your washing machine on any cycle and temperature and it will come out looking like new. We recommend using a fragrance free Eco washing powder. Also use the method that requires the least amount of energy….
If you can brush off the crumbs and shake it out before the next use, do so.
If you need to use a damp cloth to wipe off any marks, go for it.
If it’s looking a little blotchy and you want it back to new, rinse it in the sink under running water.
If it crawls across the bench and talks back, maybe its time you gave that sucker a full wash, throw it in the washing machine with your tea towels.
Wait did you say “Blotchy” before?
Yes, SammyBags material is absorbent so it will soak up water, juices, oils or grease and leave blotches… but take a deep breath and chill… they’re probably not permanent.
Still can’t cope with the injustice of the blotch? here’s an idea; wrap your juicy little sandwich in some Beeswax Wrap before tucking it inside the SammyBag to fall asleep. Cute huh?
Every Day around New Zealand hundreds of thousands of paper bags are being either disposed of by landfill or recycling. What most people don’t know is that plastic bags were created as a solution to the enormous environmental damage that paper bags were causing the planet. What we’re proposing is that customers take ownership of their waste, and shift to reusable and washable SammyBags which we believe will last for over 5 years if they’re well looked after. What the reusable cup is for coffee, SammyBags is for food. It’s all about reducing waste and shifting our behaviour from disposable, to reusable.
Our environment has a direct relationship to our mental health so we really believe in the concept of SammyBags as a vehicle for positive change. We made the connection between environmental sustainability and mental health courtesy of Sam’s tattoo, “Change Nothing; Nothing Changes” which is applicable to both mental and environmental health! Basically it’s implying that staying the same requires a decision just as much as changing does. Each time we choose to not change, we make a decision, so if we don’t choose reusable packaging, we are making the choice that nothing is going to change.
